6.7 Power Stroke Injector Coding (IQA): Do You Need It and What Can Do It
What the 10-digit IQA code is, when it must be programmed, and which tool options exist.
Replacing an injector on a 6.7L Power Stroke isn’t finished when the lines are torqued. The PCM needs to know the new injector’s flow characteristics, and that’s what injector quantity adjustment (IQA) coding does.
What the IQA code is
Each 6.7 injector has a unique 10-digit code describing its flow characteristics. It’s printed on the injector head, and the factory codes for all original injectors are on a label on the engine. Service replacement injectors come with their own IQA label (DieselMechanic.info).
Key points from that service information:
- Program the new injector’s code when you replace it. Entering the new code clears the adaptive (keep-alive memory) values associated with the old injector.
- Swapping an injector to a different cylinder also requires reprogramming.
- Stick the new IQA label next to the old one so the next tech has the right data.
Reman injectors carry a different code from the injector you removed, so don’t reuse the old one (Oregon Fuel Injection).
What tools can do it?
- Ford IDS / FDRS is the factory route referenced in service information.
- FORScan is often mentioned by owners as able to do it with a supported adapter. Some users report newer injector programming needs an online subscription (PowerStrokeArmy thread).
- Aftermarket scanners vary a lot. On a Snap-on forum, techs reported their tools at the time couldn’t do 6.7 IQA, and that an FMP programming subscription alone didn’t include it (Snap-on forum). That was an older thread, and software changes, which is exactly why you need to check the current coverage list.
Common gotchas
- Outdated tool software may not accept newer code formats. Updating the scanner, and sometimes the PCM, has fixed it (Oregon Fuel Injection).
- Write down every code by cylinder before the old injectors go in the core box.
Check before you buy
Look up “injector coding” or “injector quantity adjustment” under Ford diesel on your tool maker’s coverage page (how to check coverage), and see our Super Duty 6.7 injector coding page for verified results.
